Tooth decay is far too common in young people. Despite everyone’s best efforts, we still see too much of it at Smile Center for Kids in Sunland and Edgemere TX. Brushing may not be enough. Sometimes parents think that baby teeth aren’t all that important, since they’ll eventually fall out and be replaced by adult teeth. That, however, is a misconception. For one thing, baby teeth help permanent teeth grow in correctly, and with enough room. For another, everyone needs healthy teeth and gums.
Besides daily brushing, what can parents do to protect kids from tooth decay? One effective way is using an oral rinse! Check out more info below!
What is a Children’s Oral Rinse?
Though they look like mouthwash, oral rinses are designed to prevent cavities. They contain fluoride, which strengthens tooth enamel. The rinse should be the last liquid to make contact with teeth before bed. This helps tooth enamel re-mineralize during sleep.
Make sure you pick one made specifically for children. Otherwise it may not contain fluoride, and may well contain alcohol. This can dry out the mouth and actually be counterproductive, as it can progress conditions like gum disease and tooth loss.
